Curtains Closed: Thank You Westlife!

They call it an "amicable" split.

One should expect a sudden dowturn of events for every band may it be boy groups, girl groups, boy-girl groups (or whatever sexual preference that is) in this burgeoning music industry. I mean, nothing lasts forever! Unfortunately, this depressing situation goes to one of my all-time favorite boy bands--- Westlife.

Just when I thought that they'll continue making music and establishing themselves as one of the best-selling boybands (P.S. They made more number one hitS than the Beatles!) despite the several breaks and hiatuses, two weeks ago I've found out that they've announced their disbandment. I wasn't totally surprised at all BUT it has been only a week since their Gravity Tour concert in Manila! Seriously, my aim on watching the four of them together on stage was just tossed inside the garbage. I was even thinking that they'd surpassed REM's 30 years in the music biz. So much for all those wishful thoughts!

I may not be their biggest fan. (I don't even purchase their CD's and tapes back then. But I have two Westlife posters & a few keychains nevertheless, due to my constant nagging towards my mom to buy me some.) I'm not the total fan girl who'd scream in an earsplitting manner upon hearing their names. I don't even collect Westlife paraphernalia and watchamacallits ('coz I can barely afford those with my meager "baon".) But memorizing about 90% of their songs will make you think again. I swear I found bliss while doing that in my previous years. For the last two semesters, I've been downloading all their music videos in HD as well as their live performances. Yet with this sudden ugly twist of fate, my laptop was reformatted and poof it became Koko Crunch! Kidding aside, losing all those videos foreboded a premonition.

Shane Filan, Kian Egan, Mark Feehily (okay, Bryan McFadden too) and my favorite Nicky Byrne --- your songs gave more meaning to my childhood years. I created those make-believe realities  whenever I listen to your songs. I wasn't ashamed on belting them out as if I'm on the top of the world together with my Westlife-freak elementary classmates. I was even devastated after hearing the rumor that you were killed on a plane crash when I was 10. I could still memorize the 'Bop-bop Baby' dance steps just so you know. I also bought a Westlife special 'song hits' when I was a HS sophie and felt like slashing my wrist after forgetting all about it. Most of all, I've researched your biographies and song lyrics then wrote them down in my precious song notebook. Okay, enough!

You made an amazing journey as musicians and you will always be loved by fans like us. Thank you for all the beautiful songs that I will surely pass on to the upcoming generations. Fourteen years of making music and inspiring hungry souls like ours, I couldn't be more thankful. See you in Ireland. =)
